Mine lasted a little over a year
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Please keep in mind that most reviews here are written right after the items are purchased.
I’ve had my BASS1200 for a little over a year. For what it is — a low-profile subwoofer meant to fit in very tight spaces — I would consider the performance satisfactory; when it works correctly, that is. I found the unit to sound a bit boomy at around 90 to 120 Hz, but I’m not sure if that had to do with the interior volume of my car, a Mazda 3 sedan. It fit perfectly beneath the passenger seat.
Right around the 13th month, my unit began to produce crackling/popping noises, which persisted even after I unplugged the input line. In addition to the weird noises, I noticed that the quality of the bass became less punchy, and the frequency response became extremely uneven. From that, I gathered that the fault lied within the driver circuit instead of the actual subwoofer (i.e. speaker portion). I promptly returned the unit to Boss Audio for warranty repair, which cost me $15 plus another $15 to ship it out to them. About a week and a half later, I received the unit back with a sticker indicating that no problems were found. Arghhh!! How about a phone call or email to ask me about the exact symptoms?! So now I’m out $30 for NOTHING.
With all that said, I try to keep in perspective the original purchase price and slim profile. If you’re lacking space in your car; want something to last you about a year (maybe more); and are not an audiophile, then it might make sense to plop down $100 for one of these. Otherwise, I’d look for a better long-term investment, though it might require more space. I will never buy — nor recommend — a Boss product again. The lack of customer service killed the deal for me. My plan now is to tear the sucker apart myself, as I’m quite savvy with electrical/electronics stuff. I hope you have a better experience.

sounds good when it stays on
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I had the unit professionally installed into a jeep patriot. It fits great under the seat. I have It hooked up to the factory stereo using the high level input. It sounds great when it works, but the unit shuts off after about 10 min. If I power the stereo off for a couple seconds it will work for about another 10 min and so on. This is my second unit and I am taking it back to the installer today to try to fix. Its been a bit of a hassle, but if I can just get to work properly I would be perfectly satisfied.

Order from a good seller!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I love this amp/sub and you can’t beat it for the price and ease of installation. Just beware that I’ve ordered 4 of these things and 2 of them were defective from the get go. As long as you order from a good seller who is willing to exchange out any bad ones, you’re good to go.
No, it isn’t going to rattle your windows, it just lets you know those low bass beats are there so you can hear the entire song.

LOVE IT!!!!!!

I can’t believe what some people say about this speaker. It’s amazing! Fits perfect under my dodge ram passenger seat and provides plenty of bass throughout my whole cab. I don’t regret this purchase at all!

Just what I needed for my Honda Civic
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve got an after-market Sony CDX-GT630UI deck, four 6 1/2″ infinity speakers, powered with 75 watts apiece from an Alpine REF475A amp. I thought I’d have everything I’d need for my little civic coupe, but to get the bass I wanted, I had to crank the entire system too loud. Since space is an issue in a small car, I was looking exclusively for a powered sub, and nearly pulled the trigger on the Infinity Basslink, which is a bit bulkier. When I saw the BASS1200 on sale, I figured I’d give it a shot and come back to the Basslink if it didn’t at least bring up some of the bottom end for me.
I was hopeful, but ready for disappointment. WOW. This little box KICKS. I’ve had it a week, and haven’t had it distort or clip. I left it pretty much at factory setting, and it has been an all around powerhouse for all of my music. I’m more of the Doors, Nirvana, Talking Heads sort of ilk, and I don’t demand my sound system to travel the entire intersection at a light, but I do like it somewhat loud. Gave it the Soundgarden test, (which has a bit more heavy bass than most bands) and at all volumes it sounds unbelievable.
I could tell my friend was jealous when he heard it – he has a huge setup that takes over 1/4 of his trunk – that all that bass was coming out of the little box mounted to the back of my seat. I’m sure most folks can easily mount it under the seat, but my civic seats only have about 1″ clearance in one spot that makes it impossible for this (or any other) unit to fit there.
I bought the connection kit, and had it up and running for a test in about half an hour. Mounting and running the wires took some more time, but with the money you save on this unit, you might consider having it installed if you’re not the handy type.
Happy Thumping.

It sounded very good until……..
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This system fit my needs very well as I have a reg. cab chevy S-10 and basically not room for anything in the cabin. Very easy to install did it in 2hrs. The manual could be revised. Well it needs to be way more detailed. I would suggest looking up online for better install guides. As for quality the sound was perfect. Crisp, clean and powerful bass!!! But then after a month of use the protection light turned on and now its being repaired under warranty. So I hope it turns out ok. Yeah Boss doesnt pay for any shipping cost for their faulty products which I think is lame!! Cuz I bought a 40″ Sony LCD TV and had problems with the picture and they sent me a new one thru the mail and paid for my old one to be shipped back!! thats was nice. Also Boss isnt very coustomer friendly. Had to call several times to get a Repair Account # so I could send the product back.
If I was to only look at the sound quality this is a good product but add all the other problems then I would not buy this again.

PRETTY GOOOOD – DEFINITELY WORTH THE COST
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
BASICALLY……………….
WHY TO BUY:
1. FOR THOSE QUESTIONING WHETHER THIS SUB-WOOOFER BUMPS OR NOT, IT DEFINITELY DOES. (not as crazy as a supped up system, but it does).
2. ITS ONLY $130, PLUS $70 AMP-KIT, PLUS $70 INSTALLATION, PLUS TAX, ITS GONNA BE AROUND $300 IN TOTAL.
3. I BOUGHT IT AND LIKE IT.
WHY NOT TO BUY:
1. YOU WANT TO SPEND MORE MONEY AND GET A CRAZIER SYSTEM.

Great Fill In Bass
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
As stated in other reviews, this unit will not perform like dual 12″ subs in a box. However, if you have limited space and just want to fill in the lows in your music, this product works GREAT! I installed this unit in a ’04 Chevy 2500HD Crew Cab under the Drivers Side Rear Seat. It fit perfectly and was easy to mount to the floor board with no obstructions. Also purchased was the 8 Gauge wiring kit which made it a breeze to connect. The head unit is an Alpine 9883 and the subwoofer rca outputs were used. The sound adjustments on the Boss Box and the head unit allowed me a variety of options.
If you are looking to add some low end to your system without losing a lot of space, you can’t go wrong with the BASS1200.

More than ample power with excellent clarity!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I was very skeptical of a powered sub that was this compact and this inexpensive. I was proven wrong for the skepticism. I have this connected to a sony xplode head unit that has a sub output. The sound I get from this sub has so much power and clarity I thought about how to wire one for my home stereo, too!
Unfortunately, it did not fit under the seat of my Saturn L300. It does sit in an almost upright position on the floor under the dash in front of the passenger seat with legroom still for my wife.
Also, as with any sub-woofer and amp, there is the need for tuning the levels for optimum output. Stereo output levels, stereo equalizer levels, sub-woofer gain level, sub-woofer bass boost level, stereo crossover level(s), and sub-woofer crossover levels all need adjusted for optimum listening. There really isn’t an easy, cookie cutter way of doing all of this. You just have to play with all of the levels.
All of the fidgeting with the levels is well worth the effort with this powered sub-woofer.
You will not be disappointed!

Awesome
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is a very good product. I installed it in my Honda Odyssey and I am enjoying it. I however recommend that you buy the installation kit or buy the power cable from a audio store as this device needs a direct feed from the battery. I tried being lazy and connect it to some other power source under the dash and ended up replacing a few fuses. you will need 10-15 feet RCA cable to get the unit to the back passenger seats, as the unit wont hold under the front driver and passenger seats. The subwoofer level control is useless after the 3/4 mark and doesnt seem to give you any more bang! I also found that adding a small pre-amp to the mix gives a even rounder, banging bass. Once again if you are looking for an award winning sound system this is not it however, if you want to upgrade you stock audio system with little work, this is a great buy. I bought it and I’m still enjoying it.

Boss Vibrator
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I have a “Dual” amp going through a low pass equalizer. The EQ has a sub-woofer rca low level output. I tried every connection possible, direct from my player, direct out of the EQ without filtering and I get the same results. The sound quality is awful. It’s basically a low frequency vibrator that has very little power. I expected a low hard kick from my bass. This sub-woofer added nothing to my sound system I can’t begin to tell you how upset I am. How can 30 other people give this a good review? It boggles my mind.

Great value and performance in a companty powered sub
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I installed this as a part of a total a/v system swap out in my vehcile (receiver, video, speakers, sub). I had very little space to install a sub and has just about given up when I found this unit. It is a very easy install and it (or it’s little bro with the 8″ driver) should fit just about any vehicle. It does not hit the lows that the MTX Thunderform custom-fit sub in my wife’s car does, but at less than $150 for this sub versus the $550 we paid for her sub, it is an awesome value, and its under-seat location provides bass you can feel without attracting attention to yourself as you’re driving down the road. I’ve tested it at my preferred (and a little above) listening levels, and it provides great sound on the inside of the car, while minimizing the amount of BOOM you’re sharing with your neighbors as you drive with the windows up (windows up driving maximizes sound pressure levels and provides a better experirence inside the car while preventing sharing/being rude to your neghboring cars, imo).
Anyway, if you’re looking for a sub that will fit in a tight place, this is pretty much the only option out there, and it’s a good one.

Chevy Aveo Owner
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I own an 06 Aveo Hatchback, I love techno and industrial music, and yes I like it loud. This unit is the best way for me to avoid distortion from the 4″ mids in the door and the 4×6″ give-me-a-breaks in the rear when I crank it up. The cool part is that I can get 6-8 bags of groceries, have my daughter in the back seat and still enjoy the rich bass.
Oh, and I can fit a full sized bike with the seats folded down without hurting the unit.
How do you ask? It goes under the seat baby YEAH!! The eight inch unit fits nicely and when your standing up looking in from the window you cant see it.
I’m going to get another unit to fit under my seat but Ill probably run an extra power source from my trunk. I wonder if they make those sub-compact too?
If you own a sub-compact rollerskate with wimpie speakers this is a sweet upgrade.

Better Than Expected
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I had this subwoofer mounted under the driver’s seat of a 2010 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab by a professional. He was less than impressed when I initially showed him the speaker stating that Boss was a “low end” brand. Apparently, it was difficult to install as the 2010 Frontier has less room under the seat as previous model years. This issue did not improve the tech’s opinion of the speaker. Then he turned it on – and he was blown away by the sound. His exact words, which he stated excitedly, were: “I can’t believe you can get this sound and these features for this money”.
From my perspective, this subwoofer completely changed and dramatically improved the whole sound of my car’s audio system. I had previously upgraded the four factory door speakers with quality aftermarket speakers, but the sound still lacked “umph” (Note: I’m 50 years old, and listen to Rock and Jazz at all sound levels). This subwoofer sounds awesome and is simply a great deal. As always, Amazon delivered quickly and without issue.

Amazing sub
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have a 1997 ford F150. its a great truck but very limited room for “stuff” let alone a supwoofer. but this sub is compact AND powerful. this sub is 10 inches but its in a super small box. you will not find a smaller sub box for a 10 inch sub. granted a sub in a box this small does take a small toll on the power and sound but its still unbeatable. plus its already amped!! its max power is 1200 watts but it runs a crazy 800 watts RMS! which is more power than an unamped sterio can handle in the first place. also a 10 inch 800 RMS sub may cost you 150 alone. not to mention an equal amp ($200) and a box + wires ($75-100) so all in all it could be around $400 or most likely more to get a sub like this in your car. at $150 for the sub and amp + $25 for wires you cant beat this price either
all together it is easy to install. if you know anything about car audio and power then you should be fine. but if you dont most car audio shops will install it for around $50 and it will look nice. but self installation is free. the sub would not fit under my front seats so i had to make a modifcation and put it under the back seats. you might want to find a box that is the same size as the sub and check if you have room before buying it.
there is one very important thing to keep in mind with this sub though. when i first got the sub i was so excited to set it up i just grabed some wire and started working. i used 12 guage wire and a 30 amp fuse that i just had around. i got it working in no time and it even sounded great. it would cut out every once in a while but other than that it was good. but after only about an hour of play it blew a fuse. turns out it was more than that. it had self grounded inside of the box. aka it was broken beyond my skill level. long story shot i was able to get a replacement for free (amazon is amazing) and i got the recomended wires 8 guage wire set (also sold through amazon). now it is hooked up with all the correct wires and connections. not only is it more powerful but its also not broken. so bottom line: follow instructions and recomendations.
