Cheap Car Stereos
The old adage “You get what you pay for” applies, like it does to most things, to cheap car stereos as well. When shopping for a cheap car stereo make sure it’s cheap in price and not in quality. Low quality car stereos can have a number of faults. They can be lacking in features, have CD mechanisms that skip often, tuners with poor reception, or just plain break down early. On the contrary, with middle to high end stereos you won’t have to worry as much about any of the faults above. Generally, like with most electronics, the higher you go in the product line the better the internal components will be due to tighter tolerences in manufacturing as well as the tolerences in the components themselves. This results in high signal to noise ratios as well as better overall sound quality, both in the CD or MP3 section, and the radio tuner. Basically, in the long run, you’ll be happier with your purchase if you spend a little more now and it lasts longer. You’ll want to stick with brand names such as Sony, Pioneer, Clarion, Eclipse, Alpine, etc… Some brands even have a premier line of stereos for people who appreciate high-end things. Pioneer’s is called, appropriately enough, Premier.
Now, even though we advocate purchasing brand name stereos, we’re not saying you should go out and buy the first one you see at the retail asking price. You need to first do some homework. Shop around online, check specs, reviews, and read feature lists. When you’ve narrowed your search to a particular brand and model, set out to find the best price. If you don’t mind buying online then, by all means, go right ahead. Retailers such as Amazon have free shipping promotions regularly as well as sales throughout the day. If you’re the instant gratification type you can also print out flyers and pages from online retailers and take them to a physical store where, more often than not, you can haggle with the sales person and see if they’ll match the price. Hopefully we’ve been able to convince you that shopping for a cheap car stereo can be more fun and the ownership more rewarding if you keep in mind quality and not just price.
